So here’s what I’m up to. In a week or two I’ll be done on the rough draft of The Black Lung Captain, after which I’ll spend a bit of time lying down with cold towels over my wrists and forehead, then I’ll get up and edit it into a proper first draft and give it to my editor sometime in the middle of November. Right on schedule, ’cause I’m a good little author.
After that, I’m not sure what’s next up. Due to publishing deadlines I wrote Malice, Retribution Falls, Havoc and The Black Lung Captain back to back without a break, so I’ve been neglecting my scripts. Maybe I’ll do a bit of screenplay work for a bit. Maybe something with zombies… wait, no. Anyway, what I will do is take a little break while I sort it out. Normally this would be the point when I sling on a backpack and go somewhere in the world I haven’t been, but what with Christmas coming up and plane fares being astronomical that time of year, I’ll probably put it off till early next year. So I’ll get bored after three days and go back to work. I don’t do inactivity well…
Meantime, Malice has just been released in the US. Everyone who hasn’t tasted that little slice of YA fantasy-horror-with-a-graphic-novel-twist, er, go taste it!
HEYY CHRIS im still waiting anxtiously for havoc to come out and everyday i check the internet for a date but it never comes
:D but ive reread and reread malice over and over again and evan done a couple of book reports on it (A+). i evan recomended it to all of my friends and the librarian of my school and we evan have a couple copies there 
. im just wondering if u have any idea yet if u know when havoc is coming out in Canada so i can get it asap and read it over and over and over again and i also wanted to know if u were thinking of wrighting a thrid book (it may be ovious when i read havoc though)

i read malice at the begining of the year and finnished it in a week. it was the best book i ever read. the one part i hated was that as soon as u get out of malice u forget every thing that has happened. i have read this book 5 times and i love how it is part novel and part comic. my favorite malice animal would have to be the clankers. my fvorite person was the timekeeper, i think thats his name i cant remember. i cant wait till havoc comes out. i check the internet every couple days to see when it comes out. cant wait for havoc.
the one thing i hated was how luke died. TALL JAKE IS AWSOME.
OMG I LOVE YOUR BOOK, MALICE! it was honestly the best ive ever read…i didnt read it fast because of my book requirement, but because it was AWESOME! I know i loved it because i read what i normally can in 2 weeks in 2 days! OMG BEST BOOK EVER! i cant belive that this is your first book. (isnt it?) YOU RULE CHRIS!

i get in a depressive slump when i dont know the end of the story. like right now im waiting for the next (and hopefully not last) artemis fowl, and the next book in the inheritance cycle (eragon). and now i have to add havoc to my waiting list.

@ Billie – You should find the answers in Havoc. As to what TJ uses his walking stick for… that was actually something the artist added in. So I guess he just uses it for walking

Everyone asking if I’m writing a third book – not at the moment. There may be more in the future, but it won’t be for a while as I’m working on other stuff. Also, it’s not just up to me, it’s up to Scholastic, who publish the books. They have to fit any sequel into their schedules etc, they have to budget money to pay the artist, etc etc.

I am 12 and Malice was one of the coolest books that i ever read and also one of the best. I can’t wait for Havoc to come out. I would definitely recommend your books to my friends.

Hey, Malice was an EPIC book and i really loved it. i checked the amazon books and its (Havoc) not out here in Australia yet. i really hope you make more books based on the comic land Chris. Most of my friends have read it coz i recommended it. im cant wait 4 Havoc.
I read malice in one night it was a readinggroup book for a month so i had to read independitly. But malice was one of the best books i have ever read. I stayed up all night reading it. I have re read it over and over! CANT WAIT FOR HAVOC!!!

just randomly piked a book out at my cousins library and picked malice and i freaken loved it the only bad part was how it ended that sucked
i have just read havoc and i have to say dat it is breathtaking!! one of the best book i have ever read. it was so imaginative and creative. i really like justin because he is cool. reading the book, i had so much emotion running through me at one point it was action, then sad then happy then scared which is amazing i mean a book that can do that to you must be so great and havoc. seriously guys u should read it. it deserves 100 stars and ratings!!

It’s very rare that a villain is my favorite character because most of the time they’re stupid and underestimate their enemies. But, you did an amazing job with your characters. I have read Malice twice and im reading for my third time im not obsessed but i am wondering when Havoc is coming out. As soon as u do, u know that there is going to be a movie by someone mabye you mabye not. Im in the U.S. and wonering when the second book Malice is coming out. Im looking forward to it.
Hey Chris, I just wanted to let you know I love Malice, I’m halfway though it and I loved it so much just from reading right before Seth got into Malice I ran to borns and noble and pre-ordered Havoc as soon as I found out there was a second book thats how much I love it, and now I’m reading it non-stop it’s really the only and the best book I have ever read I’m not a reader at all it gives me trouble and I have dyslexia and its hard to read sometimes and I have never finished a book like this and remembered what I read, and I’m not a reader at all and you just made me into one. Great job you are now my favorite author. Please write a third so I can run back to B&N to pre-order your third book!!!!!!

You should make prequels and sequals to Malice and Havoc. You made a bit confusing, and I believe that we could use a huge amount of insight on your book.

OMG! Malice so totally rocks! I’ve read it a thousand times, and I still am not tired of it. I think it is awesome. It’s so great. I cannot wait to get Havoc in my hands. In malice, I really didn’t like Luke’s death. I’ve read all your books except the broken sky series, and storm thief. They should totally make a movie about Malice
