So here’s what I’m up to. In a week or two I’ll be done on the rough draft of The Black Lung Captain, after which I’ll spend a bit of time lying down with cold towels over my wrists and forehead, then I’ll get up and edit it into a proper first draft and give it to my editor sometime in the middle of November. Right on schedule, ’cause I’m a good little author.
After that, I’m not sure what’s next up. Due to publishing deadlines I wrote Malice, Retribution Falls, Havoc and The Black Lung Captain back to back without a break, so I’ve been neglecting my scripts. Maybe I’ll do a bit of screenplay work for a bit. Maybe something with zombies… wait, no. Anyway, what I will do is take a little break while I sort it out. Normally this would be the point when I sling on a backpack and go somewhere in the world I haven’t been, but what with Christmas coming up and plane fares being astronomical that time of year, I’ll probably put it off till early next year. So I’ll get bored after three days and go back to work. I don’t do inactivity well…
Meantime, Malice has just been released in the US. Everyone who hasn’t tasted that little slice of YA fantasy-horror-with-a-graphic-novel-twist, er, go taste it!
Literally just finished reading Malice a few days after I got it, and it was a fantastic book. I can’t wait for Havoc to get out, and all sorts of thoughts about Tall Jake and Malice in general are crawling through my head. I loved the way it was written and the styles you used; Needless to say it was one of the best books I’ve read in a long while. The only questions I have are about the…Well, I’m not sure whether to say world or universe or dimension or something entirely different, in truth. xD
But anyways. I’m curious- Do you plan on touching on most of the areas mentioned? The labyrinth, the city, any other place? And I was also wondering…Apart from Havoc, and the kids who are just trying to survive, are there any other sorts? Of the people who wanted to go to Malice in the first place, could you imagine any of them becoming a…part of Malice, in a sense? Not turning into one of the automatons, but still remaining as they were when they first got there, only -they- would be the ones terrifying Seth or any other poor kid who got into Malice?

Malice was an amazing book. It was a suprising thriller full of understanding,mystery, and filled with page turning excitement. I recommend this book to anyone I could not put it down it was addicting.

@ Kat – Yeah, Catchman was my second book and to be honest I don’t like it all that much, but I’m glad you do! All of my published books are listed on this site. At some point I’ll do a bibliography for the completists, just in case people want to track down the odd short stories I’ve done here and there.

@ Anastasia: I’m not sure what they intend to do for the US release, sorry. In the UK, Havoc will be paperback and it won’t have a big 3D cover like Malice (because it costs my publishers a ridiculous amount of money to do that, and they can’t afford to do it for every book). It’s still be eye-gougingly horrible-looking, though

First i have to say that you Chris Wooding are the epitome of an awesome writer. The kind of work that you put out is what I try to achieve when I write, while still putting my own twist on it of course. Please kept writing because as long as you are writing there will always be some kid somewhere that will be inspired by your work.

Hey Chris. I love you book Malice, right after I was done reading it, it was passed aroung the group and I had to wait weeks to get it back after everyone was done reading. Lolz. My friends and I also did a lot of book reports and reading fair projects on Malice. ^_^

loved this book i read it in about 2 hours i read 4+ hours a day work out and video games this is the best book ive read scince percy jacksn and the olympian series i know its a different author but i think you are the only author ive ver seen talk to fans on a web site and i think you have great potential in this series it is thrilling i could not put the book down if i was a critic id give you a 10/10

I would like to say this was the best book (Malice) I have ever read in my whole life!! I may only be in middle school but this was GREAT! This ended in a clif hanger and I live in US so I dont get the book untill MAY!! Oh well, its so worth the wait.

Mr. Wooding, you have a great imagination. While most of your readers seem to be your actual target audience, I’m actually 20! While a bit out of your “young adult” market, the cover of the book grabbed my attention, and once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. I powered through your entire book last night, cover to cover, and it was brilliant. When I finally put it down, my first thought was, “In the morning, I’m going to the bookstore to pick up Havoc.”
Then, to my dismay, my fiancee poked her head in while I was in the shower this morning and said, “It doesn’t come out ’till May.” I was devastated. And I promise, that’s a VERY good thing. Keep up the great work. I’ll probably end up grabbing a copy of Storm Thief to keep me entertained (though if it is as demanding as Malice was, that might be for a single night before I’m finished…) and praying Tall Jake comes to take me away.
Fantastic concept and interesting execution with the novel/comic idea; you, Sir Knight, may have just rocketed from out of nowhere onto my favorite authors list. Have a nice day and keep them coming!

I loved the book Malice and can’t wait for Havoc to come out. Malice had to of been the best book i have read in a long time. I really like the idea of incorperating the comic book part as well.

I absolutely LOVED Malice. I can’t wait until Havoc comes out. I was so thrilled by Malice and I also felt like I was part of the action. I’m also a fan of The Storm Thief and Poison. Do you have any idea when Havoc will be released in north america, because the suspense is to much to handle. Also if Malice was ever made into a movie it be outstanding.
