I rarely feel inclined to post comments on these kind of things, but I must say that I just finished reading The Fade and thought it was incredible. Probably the best book I’ve read this year, which includes The Stand.

It did die, but now a new film company is taking up the option to develop it. If the contract ever gets drawn up, that is, because it seems to be taking a colossal amount of time…

@ A Random Person and Jeremy – I’ll be doing another two YA books for Scholastic in the future, one of which may be a Havoc sequel (depending on a lot of things). We’re just doing all teh contract stuff now.

@ Dylan – I replied to this question in another post in a bit more detail, but in brief, Malice is in the works and Alaizabel is in the early stages, but both are a long way off getting made yet.

@ Joseph – Alex Garland is less a book writer and more of a script writer these days. He wrote 28 Days Later, Sunshine etc, so he’s kind of come at it from the movie side of things, I think. But Richard Morgan has written the script for Crysis 2, so that’s all good. More authors in games! *waves flag*

This isn’t related to this post, but I’ve just realised that the script for the upcoming game Enslaved has been written by Alex Garland of The Beach fame. Who knows, Chris, maybe they listened to you. Plus the game looks incredible from the trailers. If it turns out to be as good as it looks, it’ll prove to everyone that you were right – game developers should hire professional authors to do their scriptwriting!
